First Christian Church’s motto is, “Where every member is a missionary.” At FCC, the congregation takes seriously the call to share the gospel not only in words, but also in deeds. Whether you are young or older, you can find a place to put your faith in action at FCC.
Kentucky Ham Meal
Since 1963, FCC has been doing the Kentucky Ham Meal to benefit local, state, and Disciples-related charities. The vast majority of the money raised goes to local agencies such as the Boys & Girls Club, LOVE’s Kitchen, Care Lodge, Multi-County Community Agency, the Laurie Autry Fund, and more. KHM takes place each February.
Mission Projects
Women’s Circles, Men’s Fellowship, youth groups, and the congregation as a whole are involved in periodic mission projects throughout our community and beyond, benefiting those most in need. FCC maintains a close relationship with many of the charitable organizations around Meridian.
Laurie Autry Fund
FCC supports the Laurie Autry Fund by participating in the annual “Swing for Laurie’s Kids” which is held every year in November. All proceeds honor Laurie McDonald Autry and provide services for special needs children in the Meridian area. Mystery doubles and a tennis clinic are held for kids with special needs. Donations of support may be given through FCC.
Week of Compassion
FCC works through the Disciples-related Week of Compassion to respond to natural or human disasters around the world. FCC has often been among the top givers of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations.
Backpack Buddies
FCC is involved in regular food collections for the Backpack Buddies program at Southeast Lauderdale Elementary School, which helps to feed children in need over the weekend while not in school.
Community
FCC operates a daily snack bag ministry to help helping the poor and homeless in our community. In addition, we participate in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree ministry each year buying Christmas gifts for a large number of children in need.
