The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a mainline Protestant denomination of approximately 380,000 members in over 3,200 congregations in North America. Its beginnings date back to the early 1800s, when leaders of the Stone-Campbell movement left their Presbyterian roots for fewer creeds and more of an emphasis on freedom in biblical interpretation (an early slogan was, “No creed but Christ”).

The Christian Church (DoC) of today remains a Christ-centered fellowship which celebrates the Lord’s Supper weekly in its services of worship, and which strives to be a welcoming church that shares the love of Jesus Christ with all, both in and beyond the church. Churches within our denomination are congregationally-governed, but in covenant relationship with one another and organized into regions. Global missions are done cooperatively with the United Church of Christ and are in close to ninety countries. Fifteen colleges and universities, and seven seminaries, are affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
